Two Happy Years

This marks the anniversary of the day we brought home Lucy and Ricky two years ago.

Little Lucy- March 31, 2011
Littly Ricky- March 31, 2011
From the first day they came to live with us, it's been so much fun.  They are the snuggliest dog's I've ever known.  Who would have ever thought I could ever get Fermin to allow them not only up in the chairs and our laps, but in our bed!  It didn't take all that much convincing.  They never grew as big as we thought they would, so they ended up being just the perfect size.  They think they're lap dogs, and we believe them!

My heart has grown bigger in the past 2 years... So full of love for them.  Every day, every single day, they bring me serious joy.

The two of them are perfect companions for each other, and for us!

So, "CHEERS!" to The Ricardo's-  Here's to the first two years, and the many more ahead of us.

Staying Safe

There have been 3 rapes in the past couple of weeks near my neighborhood.  The rapist is still on the loose. WHOA.

Both yesterday and today, there was a "lock down" at area schools because of this.

The rapist (or rapists- they don't know for sure that it's the same man) has busted thru doors and windows to get inside homes.  He hasn't gone in schools.  And he's been raping women, not children.

So, altho I  get that we're locking down everything we can think of, it seems odd that it's the schools that are in lock down.  My husband's explanation to me was that it was so the guy wouldn't have a place to hide if he ran off... But aren't there lots of other hiding places?  With women in them?  I want my house in lock down!!!  And, well, I guess it is.  ;)

Today, Lucy and I unlocked our doors to get some fresh air and went for a run at the lake.
Looks safe enough!  :)
I gotta admit, I was sorta on high alert.  I parked in a parking lot that had a police car in it.  When I pulled into my parking spot, I realized the jeep next to me had it's rear passenger window busted out and glass was all over the ground.  The policeman asked me if I knew who's car it was (Um, no)...  So that's why he was there.  But it made me feel safer.  And of course, having my big mouthed and sassy Lucy along made me feel like if anyone did try to bother us, lots of folks would hear about it.

St. Patrick's Day- Don't Pinch Me!

There was no green beer for me today.  No drunken parade.  Instead, it was a great, relaxing day with people I love. I was the only one that actually remembered to even wear green so I had a lot of pinching to do.

Don't these people know that green is the hot color for not just today, but for the 2013 year? Yep, that's right- it's been declared Pantone's "Color of the Year"!

I'm just about to list this repurposed vintage necklace in my ResparkableVintage Etsy shop.
Repurposed Vintage Necklace with lots of GREEN
Hope you remembered to wear green and didn't receive any pinches... Happy St. Patty's Day!

Rhoda Morgenstern

I was sad when I heard the other day that Valerie Harper, who famously played Rhoda, Mary Tyler Moore's BFF, has terminal brain cancer.
Valerie Harper as Rhoda Morgenstern
But today, I saw a bit of an interview she gave over the last couple of days.  She said, "We are all terminal.  No one here gets out alive."  She went on to say that she wants people to see her now and see that she's feeling fine. NOW.  That may not always be the case, but right now she is fine.

I tend to worry about things that might eventually happen.  Since my grandmother had breast cancer and my Mom died of ovarian cancer, I sometimes get caught up in worrying about "what if I get cancer?".   And because my other grandmother had Alzheimer's, I sometimes worry that could someday happen to me.  And then I worry, "OMG, poor Fermin." Then I worry, oh no- what if something bad happens to Fermin first.  I even worry about the eventual day Lucy and/or Ricky has something go wrong....  Seriously, I could go on and on.

But Valerie reminded me today that right now, I'm very healthy and feeling great.  Right now Fermin is young and vibrant.  And right now Lucy and Ricky are just happy 2 year olds!  Right now everything is just great.  And that's really all I need to focus on.

Jodi Arias on Trial

How is it that no one I've asked is watching this Jodi Arias trial?  CNN's sister station, or whatever they refer to it as..., HLN covers it just about 24/7.  Not only do they show live coverage of the trial during the day, but shows like "Nancy Grace" and "Dr. Drew" cover it every weekday night.
Jodi Arias on trial.
Jodi is on trial for murdering her boyfriend, Travis Alexander, by stabbing him something like 29 times, and shooting him in the face.  She's told about a million lies about it- First saying she wasn't even at his house when it happened.  Then she changed her story and said 2 intruders attacked him but spared her.  Then, finally, once she knew they had loads of hard evidence against her, she said that yes, she did it.  But it was self defense.
Jodi, back in better days...
I have been glued to HLN for a couple of months now.  The best part about this trial, and what makes it so interesting to watch is Jodi took the stand beginning about 2 weeks ago.  Both the prosecution and the defense have asked all their questions, and made their cases.  Starting today, the judge is asking Jodi over 100 questions that the have jurors submitted.  How cool is that?

Sex, Lies, and Audiotape...
This trial is far more entertaining than anything else I've seen on t.v. lately.  Or maybe ever.

March Sadness

I've been so enjoying reading The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe this past week or so, and today I am down to the final two chapters.

I've been in no rush to get to the end.  I have savored each chapter.  It has reminded me so much of my time with Mom, toward the end of her life.  Things I hadn't thought about in a while.

Like Mom, the author's mom had a terminal cancer.  He and his mom both loved to read, and so this is a memoir about their book "club" of two.  Many of their book and life  discussions were during her chemo treatments.  Mom and I had a similar book club.  We just never called it that.

Of course, I only know what the experience was like from my perspective.  I felt both sad and lucky to know Mom's time here was limited.  I can only imagine what it was like for her.  From what she said to me, I know her main concern was making sure everyone else would be okay.  I even remember her comforting ME one day as I cried.  I feel bad about that, but at the same time, that was just Mom.

So it's a weepy day around here.  But weepy is not always a bad thing.  It feels like she's nearby.  If she was here, I'd be telling her all about this great book I'm just about finished with.  I'm sure I'd hand it off to her, after I read the last few pages.

March Gladness

I failed to post anything new in my Etsy shop yesterday-- Which was my March Madness plan.

March Gladness took it's place yesterday.

I was glad it was Sunday.  I was glad it was a beautiful day.  I was glad I sang a couple of my songs at a sweet church that I like in Grapevine.  I was REALLY glad that two of my favorite friends coincidentally live near the church and showed up to hang with me during and after the service!  I was glad Fermin and I were invited over to our new neighbors house for wine.

I was full of gladness for a lazy but full Sunday...
March Madness resumes later today!

March MADNESS, Day 1

Madness, I tell you!  Like I said on my last post, earlier today as a matter of fact!, I am posting (at least) one repurposed necklace (or earrings, or bracelet) in my Etsy shop (ResparkableVintage) every day this month!

Sweet!  Pink and floral vintage components...
Day 1....  Here we go.  I love the little pink rose trinket that hangs beneath the larger medallion.  (Of course I do!  It's PINK.  And it's VINTAGE!)  Those vintage components are mixed with a modern chain, a few pretty pink beads, and a cute little magnetic clasp to create this brand new piece of jewelry.  Like all of the jewelry I hand craft, it's one of a kind.  Hop over to the shop and see more pictures and information about it there.  And of course, if you have any questions about it, just ask!  :)

March Madness

March Madness!!! Also known as, the beginnings of a beautiful Spring!

Last week, I said to my husband, "This week, I'm going to list at least one new piece of jewelry in my Etsy shop every single day this week-- Starting Monday!"  YAY!  What a great idea.  I was committed.

But then, I was sabotaged!  My camera broke.  I turned it on Monday morning to photograph some really cool repurposed vintage jewelry necklaces I had recently made, but I got a message on the camera screen telling me my lens had malfunctioned.  And once it gave me that message, the lens just stayed stuck and the camera was inoperable.

So I spent the week making (but not photographing!) jewelry, shopping for a camera, and waiting for it to be delivered.

It arrived late yesterday afternoon!
HK loves the camera so much, she wants to eat it!
Last night, after getting a little familiar with my camera, I decided to take on a little project for March.  And here it is...

I'm going to make and list a new piece of jewelry for my ResparkableVintage shop over at Etsy.com every day of March.
Coro vintage brooch- Repurposed with other vintage and new components to make this necklace.
Hopefully, I'll start getting a lot more traffic to my shop with more lovely merchandise to choose from.  I'm also going to list the jewelry of the day on Facebook, and hopefully sweet peeps will spread the word by sharing it, and I'll have more visitors.

I love a good month long, self imposed challenge to get me motivated!  Seriously, I am so excited.  Nothing do I love more right now than creating jewelry.  Besides playing with my dogs, it's all I wanna do!!!
